Eating size Michigan Northern Pike

This is an average late fall pike caught at a southern Michigan dam on a slip bobber rig in ten foot of water using a common shiner minnow for bait.  This is also the size pike that I like to keep for eating.

Where about did you catch him in southern MI>? Im from MI and I used to catch some nice ones out in fenton and some at Newburgh Lake dam.  Nobody really knows about the Newburgh lake dam, but they have some monster pike, I caught one 42" out there. Good Job!

Geographic distribution

Esox lucius is found in freshwater throughout the northern hemisphere, including Russia, Europe and North America. It has also been introduced to lakes in Morocco and is even found in brackish water of the Baltic Sea

Canada Pike Fishing

  Due to policies of catch and release, in recent years there has been a boom in Canada pike fishing as pike are growing both in number and stature.  In Canada pike are abundant, but some of the best lakes are found in the Yukon territories, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.  While some of the pike hotspots can be driven to, as is often the case the only choice is to fly in or boat in.
These out of the way fishing holes have very little angling pressure as well as strong populations of walleye salmon which serve as a mainstay food source for larger pike.  Abundance of food, large lakes, little angling pressure and catch and release tactics are the perfect recipe for catching trophy pike.  As proof Ontario has shown to produce 40 and 50 pound pike in the ....
