I packed my bags, my fishing license and hopped into my F-150 for a short 3 hour drive to my parent's ranch in Gordon, Texas. It was Easter weekend 2007 and I was ready to do some fishing!

Obviously, the Gods had different plans.

Saturday morning arrived and I wake to a TAP, TAP, TAP on my bedroom door. Half asleep, I glanced at the bedside clock reading 8 a.m.  Slowly, I raised my head to find my Mother peeking her head in through the doorway. "You aren't going to believe this," she said. "It's snowing."

My first thought was "Are you kidding me??"

My second though is "Neat. I'm going back to sleep. Bye, Bye now."

Of course, curiousity got the best of me. I threw on some pants, grabbed the video camera and, sans one drop of coffee in my system, yawned my way to the front door.

Wow!  It's really coming down.  It couldn't last could it?

Oh it could.  And it did.

What I thought would be a brief snow flurry turned into an all day, on and off, snowstorm. (at least by Texas in April standards)

The Mama cows were hatin' life while the calves were lovin' it.  Crazy kids. The hummingbirds had NO idea what to make of it and seemed to stand frozen in spot.  (They did this either out of self preservation or they were literally "frozen in spot.")

Anyway, lack of fishing aside, it was an interesting weekend to say the least.

I put together a litte video of this rare Texas event.  Hope you enjoy it.

Chris,

That is an awesome video.   What is the title of the background music?

I was cooking steaks on the grill in the sleet and cold for guests visiting the ranch in Llano county.

Thanks!  The music was a track called "Dora Mae's Funeral" from the soundtrack to the HBO tv series "Carnivale."

How were the steaks?  We grilled some steaks that night as well. (Cousins of those cattle who appeared in the video)  Froze our butts off but well worth it.

I really enjoyed the video and music in this post. Everything from the bluebonnets along the roadway to calves in the field made me feel right at home.

It looks SOOOOOOOO pretty!  I am sad I missed it...the calves playing in it was so cute...and the music went perfectly!
