1st Time at Sabine LakeWritten on: 04/05/2007 20:04 by: E.TX.BOWHUNTER
I have been working in the area since February and asking locals at the IHOP about the fishing. People have been fairly good about giving information. However, without a boat my options are limited. Tuesday I caught a small break. The wind was down to 15 MPH. I had driven Pleasure Isle and was anxious to see what the water was looking like. I was pleased to see some visibility and bait working tight to the bank. I only brought a couple lures with me and I needed some protected water to do some dog walking. I think it took 3 casts to get a good blow-up. This encouraged me so much I got the net from the truck just in case. It took 30 more minutes before another blow-up and this time the fish found the bait. After a good fight a solid fish came to the net. The bite was slow and I stuck with it. I switch to a catch 5 and caught another good fish. It was getting late and the wind really started to lay. I went back to the skitterwalk and hooked-up on my first cast. Another 20" trout came to the net. Several cast later a small 15 1/4" was duped. The next cast a 14" trout had eyes bigger than his stomach and was caught and released. It was time to head back to the hotel. I got in tonight and grilled one of the trout with some fresh pico and montery jack cheese on top. It was delicious. I'm glad to be home this weekend but I sure want to do some more fishing. I'll keep you posted.
