Standing at the opening of an ancient indian dwelling, looking out on the valley below, not a drop of water in sight, wondering how native americans of yesterday survived. That is what was on my mind.

Find shelter, build a fire, make a weapon, and provide for your family. Literally a way of life then, the makings of a survival story in today's world.

I have never had the opportunity to do what I did today. It was fascinating. There are few words to describe how dramatic it felt just to stand in the footprints of such ingenious people.

And then, to find an old rifle cartridge in the dust. I have never heard of a .33 caliber, but maybe some of you have. We cleaned it up with some muratic acid when we got back to camp and I took this photo to share with everyone.

I hope the short video and handful of photos will at least give you a glimpse of what I experienced.

That looks like a great day out in the field. Finding old relics where men have been and lived in the past is always rewarding.

My heros have always been cowboys............and indians. I've done alot of exploring out that way and have found quite a few artifacts. Always looking at the ground when I get out of the stand. It's not hard to find a sight if you know what to look for and it's always a thrill when you find something.

Where were you at. I used to live in Vanhorn and hunt the Devil Ridge mountans. We would find old cave paintings and stuff all the time.
