Marty my hunting buddy and I were headed out to the Sam Houston National Forest. Earlier in the week I received my Step Outside cd from TexasHuntFish. As we drove and laughed on the way at Kevin Fowler's Beer Bait and Ammo and 5 pound bass, we began joking about the girls going shopping AGAIN. Seems every time they go shopping when we go hunting we are successful. We had taken 2 deer earlier in the year and my wife was concerned about freezer room for another deer.

We made it to the woods and loaded-up the bikes. A couple of miles in I put Marty where I have been seeing a lot of deer. He could still take a buck and we both have doe permits. As the sun came up he had alot of movement around him while I had nothing. The sun came blazing thru the trees and fog began to form making visibility difficult. After seeing nothing for a while I was getting impatient and cold. I have never hunted or scouted this spot I was in before, but I knew there were deer in these woods. I just needed one to come by. It was a few minutes after 8 when I heard the report from Marty. I called him on the radio and he said he shot at a buck. He did not see it drop because of the fog and glare. I said good I'll come help. I wanted to warm-up. He said wait 30 minutes, he still has a doe tag. No more than 10 minutes later I catch movement about 50 yards away. I thought no way we aren't going to get 2 deer today. The doe stopped presenting a broadside shot and the shot was right on target. He calls me on the radio "what did you shoot?" I said "Nothing, I just felt like shooting." He did not buy this. "What did you shoot?" I confessed and told him "I got one." This he did not believe. I told him I was going to check mine and he could bring the cart to me. He called me with verification he got his. I told him good, now we have work to do.

With pictures done and the deer at the processor, we cleaned  out the truck. The girls came home and we were drinking beer and watching football. You know celebrating. They asked if we had any luck and we replied we did not get one. After a moment we told them we got 2. The girls laughed at the "joke" and said they checked the truck and the driveway was dry. We were back so early everything was dry and put up. I got the camera and showed them the pictures. I'm hoping they will limit their shopping trips next year. This will teach them.
