Father's Day Fishing TripWritten on: 06/20/2010 07:44 by: ggonzales
Once again I am the luckiest man on the planet and have a tremendous support group in the form of my family. This years father's day would be a special a memorable one for me because I was invited to do some Speckled Trout fishing with my two best buddies with a fishing guide. It's not every day that enyone gets the opportunity to go on a guided fishing trip, but this was a gift from my sister in law who had won this trip as part of a raffle. She knows how much me and my brother in law love to fish so she graciously donated this guided fishing trip valued at $550 for us on fathers day weekend. On friday I made the trip down to the coast from my home base of San Antonio, I was fortunate enough to have the day off and was so sxcited to be heading to Aransas Pass the next day to do some Trout fishing. Normally, I take pride in being a Red fisherman, but have never had the chance to catch a "Trophy Trout" I thought this trip would be a good opportunity to catch some quality trout. We arrived early Saturday am at Hampton's Landing where we found our fishing guide Dempsy Rowe already with the boat in the water ready to go. We loaded up and headed out quickly in style and headed south to Shamrock Island. When we arrived at our 1st stop, there were already a half dozen boats fishing the south side of the Island and more pulling up. It definitely looked like a spot where trout would be lurking, lots of seagulls and bait fish activity. We quickly hooked up with several undersize trout and then the porpises showed up and we knew it was time to move on. Our guide header further south across the JFK into the Laguna Madre where we mad a stop near Laguna Shores road and caught a few more small trout before moving to the grass flats near the CPL power plant. The whole time our guide was communicating with other guides in the area via cell phone to get the low down on what areas were producing fish and so forth. It turned out it was a tough morning and all the boats were having to grind out keeper trout one at a time to fill the cooler. We finally move to the humble flats area and began cathing keeper trout one at a time, then doubles and even several tripple hook ups, the action was not fast and furious, but definitely exciting!!! The highlight of the day was drifting over that area several times and every new drift produced two or three keepers on the first cast. In the end we caught over 50 speckled trout and put 18 keepers in the cooler to bring home back to San Antonio In the end, a good time was had by all. even the fishing guide had a good laugh with our colorfull group. The day was perfect, good friends, great stories and wonderful memories were made on a very special day. Thank you Audrey my sister in law and Domingo for showing me love and treating me like the best dad in the whole world!!!
