My long awaited saltwater fishing trip to Corpus Christi finally came over the Memorial Day weekend.  We had planned a afternoon wadefishing trip to Sharock cove for Reds and Specks, the rods were rigged, tackle ready, all that was needed was for the fish to cooperate.  The day started out great, were meet our friends Eddie Morin, his brother Jhonny and other friend Justtin Nickolas at Clems Marina on the Island and purchase plenty of live shrimp.  THe drive to Shamrock Cove is pretty rough, but well worth it.  As soon as we arrived there was one person already fishing the pot holes where we would target our fish.  After doing the Aransas bay Shuffle to avoid the stingrays, he informed us that all he had been cathing was stingrays and hardheads, no Reds or Specks.  Although, he was using mud minows, we were still hopefull to catch something good.  The bite started off good, lots of nice sized hardheads kept up busy, then one or two small Reds, finally I caught a nice keeper sized Speck that decieded to jump out of my hands while putting him on the stringer.  The big fish never showed up, maybe it had something to do with the full moon, who knows.  The next day we decieded to hit the beach and do a little surf fishing, we did not think we would have much action with all the beach goers and such, but on the first cast we hit a school of whitewing and continued to catch small to mid size whitewing all afternoon long.  We even had to take a brake due to the fast paced action getting to us.  So the Holiday fishing trip was not a total loss, my son caught plenty of fish, had a blast and enjoyed spending time wadefishing.  THis was his first time catching fish in the surf and it does not matter if we did not take any fish home for dinner, he loved every minute of the fast paced action!!!
