I have been fishing in Sargent Texas for about 4 Years. The 1st three years were nothing but Surf fising because I didn't have a boat. My Girlfriend and I bought a boat last year and have been fishing more in the bays. We decided to take a day off and check out the surf area. The Boats were all packed in the cut and we couldn't get out (some rude people). We achored off the side and sat for awhile. We started catching small croaker and stingray. After about an hour we witnessed a boaut about 75 yards away from us catch the biggest drum I have ever seen. What made it more exciting was that the person was in about a 16 ft Boston Whaler and as the guy pulled the fish in the boat, it looked as though the fish was as long as the boat was wide. We decided to wait just a little while !!. My Girlfriend hooked into a large fish. She fought it for 20 Minutes and finally landed the biggest fish of her life. It was a great feeling for me and I was over joyed for her having such an experience. At about 5pm we decided we would throw out one last time and sit for the next 15 min before heading back in to the Boat Ramp.

I had been sitting for no more than 5 Minutes when my reel starting singing with line beeing peeled off. The fish took off about 100 yards befor eslowing down.  Abotu 20 Minutes late we had the fish close to the boat and as the fish rolled onto the surface we knoew we had something special. We were able to land the fish and had another memory to last a life time!!

Congradulations on the nice catch, it's been a while since I have caught some big drum, but prefer to catch them in the 18 to 25 inch range for the fish fry.  There are definitely some rude people out on the water, wish more people had some comon sense when out enjoying the outdoors!!!
