Being a DaddyWritten on: 02/22/2010 19:17 by: NelsonV
You would think the title alone would speak for itself but unfortantly it doesn't. My father decided that he wanted to leave my mom and I when I was 4. So growing up without a dad there is a lot of things that I know I missed now that I'm a daddy. I live for the outdoors so I believe that hunting and fishing made me the man I am today. Without a mentor or dad to show me the ropes I am truely a self taught outdoorsman. After becoming a daddy myself in 2002(Madison) and 2004(Hunter) now understand the bond that a father and a son has. I wished I could just get my daughter in the woods like my son but to be quite honest she would rather go shopping with mom....and who can blame her. If I go to the lease or fishing he is there. Early morning, rain, snow, blistering hot weather, and mosquitoes no matter what he is there. He loves checking trail cameras and although he spills more corn than he gets in the feeder he loves to do that also. We are at the point now where he is identifying tracks and trails. For only being 5 he carries himself well in the woods. He knows when to be quite(that took a while) and when not to. We are all blessed to be given such angels. He thinks I'm the strongest, smartest, and bravest man on the planet. If he only knew that he was really my Superman.

Great journal entry, that's what it's all about, the kids, they are our future and we must pass the tradition of hunting and fishing on down!!!
Thank you. It's amazing how having children make you into a different person. It used to be hunting, fishing, and partying. Now it's Tee Ball, softball, fundraisers, and then hunting and fishing.
Enjoy every moment, snap your fingers and they are grown.
That's wonderful you can spend time with your son like that, because those are memories you'll savor for the rest of your life. And '808' is right, the time passes by so quickly. But, while children grow up, and the relationship must change to some degree, Lord willing it will also get richer.
Thats really great Nelson V. Do a really good job showing your son the ropes and one day you'll find yourself like me; waiting for your grandson to get old enough to take hunting and fishing.
