I live in Louisiana where our deer season has just come to an end. I've seen it snow in Iowa, Texas, and Louisiana while hunting this year. I'm 26 and I've never seen it snow so damn much. I sat on my bucket seat Sunday evening for one last hunt and realized this was it, last time to sit and look out into this field until next year. It was almost depressing. I have had a year of agony and time of almost religious experiences. I was fortunate enough to kill a 6pt and an 8pt here at home, and I killed a 9pt, a doe, and two hogs on our lease in Texas. I also killed a gold medal free range axis this summer in Bluementhal that was amazing. While in Iowa I shot the biggest buck I've seen in years! He was around 165 and a perfect 10pt. I found blood thru the snow for a while then it disappeared into the trails of tracks. I followed every set of tracks well into the night. Then as I new it wasn't going to happen a blizzard rushed in and we had to go back to the camp. I was sick at my stomach, and felt like I was going to throw up. The guy who owned the land told us at 9:15pm that we better leave now or we was going to become Iowa citizens for the next month!! Then I really got sick I had to ride all night long til 2:30pm the next evening back to LA thinking of the monster I had just shot and will never get to lay my hands on. God willing I hope I made a bad shot and he's still alive today. These type things are what makes it hunting, the agony of defeat and the triumph that makes us get up and suffer thru the coldest mornings to feel that rush for just a short amount of time. But it's nothing like it in the world, if it is and its legal tell me about it cause I'd be hooked. I have already found myself oiling my Daiwa reels and pulling all my baits out dreaming of that wall hanger bass. It's the time of year that is no longer deer season, but little to cold for fishing. So to all of you who jug fish, bowfish, fish in general, our great passion of deer hunting maybe over for a year but another passion is right around the corner. The bass, specs, and redfish are next on my dinner table. For all who read this I hope your nights are haunted with the dreams of tommorrows eternal memories in the great outdoors.
