The constant cracking of a hammer against wood and the occasional squeel of a cirqular saw put me in the douldrums.  I tied a 12 gauge and backpack to the front of the fourwheeler, strapped my 7 mag to my back and fired it up.  My mission for that evening was to get to a stand that I haven't hunted yet in the back of the property and kill a hog or turkey.  I was on the four wheeler swiftly scooting along a dirt path that was beaten on our lease on course to the stand still constantly scanning the mesquite in case I encountered a flock of turkeys or a gang of pigs.  I was looking off to my left when I picked up some movement farther down the road.  I spotted 10 heads weaving in and out from behind mesquite trees.  They were all hens but it was the fall season so I quickly shouldered my 7 mag and found a hen in the scope.  The grass was so high that I could only see the bird's neck and head.  I clicked off the safety and pulled the trigger.  The gun reported and slammed into my shoulder and the birds scattered.  The bird disappeared and I saw flapping wings through the scope.  I knew that the bullet hit its mark.  I made my way toward the bird at a slow trot and came upon the bird.  The bullet hit the bird a quarter inch behind the earhole!  I was beside myself with joy because I pulled off a suprising shot but also because I didn't blow the meat to smitherines.  I threw the bird over my shoulder and walked back to the four wheeler measuring the shot.  It turned out to be 93 yards exactly.  I pulled into camp and presented the bird and the night was filled with excited dialogue.
