Sunday I was talking to my neighbor who had just returned from Kansas. He asked if I had heard about the wounded deer he saw up there yet. I said no and he told me the following story:

He was sitting over a feeder and saw a really nice 8 point come up and start eating. He noticed something sticking out of both sides of the deer. It was an arrow. It was a few inches below his spine and just behind the shoulder. The fletches were on one side and the 3 blade broadhead sticking-out the other. He knew he was going to have to kill this animal, but he had all week to hunt still. The deer would try tugging at the arrow quite often trying to remove it. He watched this deer come in all week and feed and tug on this arrow. The last day he was there the deer showed-up with a large piece of ice on him where the arrow use to be. The sucker had pulled the broadhead out! He figured with the snow on the ground tracking back to the arrow should not be a problem. Sure enough he found the bed and the arrow. He asked the ranchers around their lease about the 8 pointer. As it turns out the deer was stuck 3 weeks before. He said the deer looked fine and exhibited no problems. There is one tough deer walking around Kansas today.

The buck I killed this year had broken his jaw at some point, and the break had caused a massive abcess in his teeth. Had to be extremely painful every time the buck ate.
