Cr. Outfiiters is a jokeWritten on: 04/21/2008 00:20 by: TNhunter
Warning, C R outfitters is a joke!!! My friends and family went to Texas for a great.... Hog hunt with CR Outfitters. After a 1100 mile drive exspecting to stay in a lodge, have lighted treestands, over 1500 acres to hunt, only have one group there at a time and hogs everywhere according to owner Brad Gause. We didn't see a hogg, we stayed in FEMA trailors, there was 3 groups there including ourselves, not enough lighted stands for everyone, I personally sat in a broke down ground blind. There was one farm that we were allowed to hunt not the three farm 1500 acres we were told would be avail, with rotted box stands and broke down ground blinds. The Moonlight put off alot more light than the supposed lighted stands did! There were dead animals around the stands and feeders. Breakfast, lunch, and supper served every day that didn't happen. When the hunt was purchased at $300 a person and we drug 6 people down there and was stuffed in a FAMA trailor because there was 2 other groups there in the other two trailors I wasn't very happy. The trailor's sewer tank was full, and wouldn't even flush, be prepared for a cold shower too.. We ate baked beans and sloppy Joes the first night we were there, no breakfast nor lunch the next day. Thankfully we took our own food. There was only one guide there for 11 people in camp, I was told there would be 1 guide per person, DIDN'T Happen. The 1st Night we hunted we were taken to the stand 1 hour before sunset, because they only had one vehicle there to take groups in and out and could only haul 3 people at a time. We have built a website if you would like to see more of our story, for your protection!!! www.texascroutfitter.com

your website doesn't work
It really tee's me off to see these outfitters lie and make things sound better than what they are. They should be up front and tell the truth to hunters about there land and hunts...I know its hard to get your money back once youve paid these Scum Buckets and they dont live upto there lies and deception,so maybe before you leave just cock back and give them an old Texas hard fist to there nose and next time they might think twice about there lies....
Here's the website http://www.croutfitterstexas.com/
That is a frustrating story to read. Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us!
I noticed there is a "CR GAME RANCH" which seems to be different people from "C.R. OUTFITTERS".
C.R. OUTFITTERS has the email croutfitterstexas@yahoo.com , with the contact name Brad, like you mentioned above.
CR GAME RANCH seems like a professional business with the website http://www.crranch.com/, and the contact names were are different.
Here is their working URL http://www.myspace.com/croutfitterstexas. The one listed above is under construction.
Please consider posting your review under their listing. The link to their listing is here: http://www.texashuntfish.com/thf/app/hunting-and-fishing-guides-and-leases/2033/C-R-Outfitters
I'm sorry this happened to you. This particular "CR Outfitter" is indeed a poor representation of guides and outfitters. It is a prime example of someone that wants to be a guide real bad, so they become a real bad guide. It further goes to show that a 4x4 with a logo on it doesn't make you a guide. You either know what you are doing in this business or you do not, and they do not.
I happen to know a little background info on this "outfitter" and he/they are prone to lying to folks about their credintials, experience and how much land they have to hunt on. They run dove/hog combo deals in an area not known for dove hunting at all. And I'm always suspicious of hunts that are listed as cheaply as they advertise.
I do not guide full time, I do not make my living doing it. I do it to suppliment my income and because it was something I was born into. My dad started guiding in the early 70's. However, I understand that half of guiding is customer service, hunting is the other half. If you tell a customer that you have a given product then you'd better damn well have what you say you have.
The simple fact is that this particular wannabe guide is as fake as a $3 dollar bill, scared of his own shadow and would rather run across the street to lie than to stand still and tell the truth.
The one bad thing about situations like this, is that it's often one person that makes the entire business look bad. When something goes wrong it's often the guide that gets blamed. I've been guiding for a while and have been in situations many times where I had no clue what had been agreed on between the owner and the clients. My job was to take care of my hunters and do what I could to make them happy. But when things went bad I was often the one who got the complaints eventhough I had know idea what was promised to the hunters. This makes me think that the actual guide wasn't to blame in this story. And plus, 1 guide taking care of 11 people? That's a little excessive, don't you think. And for the record, the Brazos county area is a really good area for Dove hunting.
Being the guide caught between the customer and making them happy can be tough, I've been there.
However, if you are guiding for someone else you should know what the goal is, how much they paid for the hunt, what they expect etc. As I said before, half of this is customer service. Clients spends thousands of dollars preparing for the hunt before they ever spend a dime with the outfitter so there is an expectation that the guide/outfitter will be prepared also.
The 1 guide to 11 hunters ratio is a sign that someone got greedy and is trying to cram as much "hunting" into a weekend as possible to make as much money as possible reguardless of the outcome. While this may not be the fault of an employee of the outfitter, with this particular company they are one and the same. As I said before, they wanted to be a guide really bad so they became a really bad guide.
And I would say that the Brazos County area is fair, at best, for dove. If you want good dove hunting you have to get into their migratory flyways and around their habitat. Uvalde, Coleman County, Brown County, West TX, and the Pan Handle offer much better dove opportunities.
Reading this blog really suprises me. I hunted with Brad and his guys a few months ago and we had a blast. The day before we made our 700 mile drive we read the site made by these guys, and were very upset. We expected the worst. And even made that clear to Brad on arrival. We however really enjoyed the food and company we recieved. We saw quite a few hogs and rams. Mostly while driving to our stands. We did all take a couple of hogs on our hunt. The stands we hunted from had low light but it was enogh to make out animals at the feeders. We also did do some checking into the size and it is about 1300 acres that we gps'ed while driving the fields. There jeeps were a little rough but it is a hunt. Our trailer was a 30 foot 2004 model with adiquate a/c and hot water. We were pleased with our hunt when we left and will probably return. I think that people should check into the trip a little more. Had we seen your website against them we would not have booked. But we are glad we did.
I saw a "Guides Wanted" flyer posted near the entrance to the Gander Mountain store in College Station today. The flyer gave the croutfitterstexas.com website. Mostly out of curiosity, I thought I would contact them but after reading what was posted here, I'll pass.
Incidentally, if you guys want a tip for a really good hunting ranch operation, google T-encino Ranch. A hunter got a really big, big red deer stag out there just a couple of days ago. Not a huge ranch, but a super quality operation run by good people. It is near Brownwood. Tell 'em Tommy sent you.
Wow, I hunted with Brad and scott last year at this ranch and did not find any of this to be true. We ate a very good baked chicken meal one night and a pork roast that was to die for the next. We did not go hungry. They also had 2 jeeps and a larger suv when we were there. They must have it out for this outfitter. I honestly can not believe that this was the same hunt.
We hunted with the C.R. group last week and were quite impressed. One of my group memebers counted noumerous hogs at his stand on the first hunt. He was trophy hunting, and they were all in the 100lb range so he did not shoot. My hogs came out and 7 of them ran in a circle around the feeder and took off. These guys do try real hard to make there hunters welcome. The morning hunts were very slow, but the afternoon and nights were VERY busy. I would suggest anyone else to do the overnight hunts. Im jsut too old to do it. We drove in from montana, arriving a day early and had a good meal. Anyone looking to go out and just slaughter hogs should not go on this hunt. If you want a real hunt, with plenty of WILD hogs, then this is it. We did not hunt the high fence, I dont believe in it. But left happy. Thanks guys 4 stars out of 5.
Perhaps there are 2 cr outfitters in texas. I hunted with this "outfitter" a few weeks ago in Gause texas. My experience sounds exactly like the original post, except our guide was not the owner. I bought this hunt so my dying grandfather could kill a hog, since there is not much opportunity to hog hunt near our home in OK. Too bad he never got the opportunity. I also wanted to kill a ram, but the owner kept insisting that I purchase a hog hunt and pay the kill fee when I shot a ram.
When we arrived, the water heater in our trailer didn't work. Our guide, Kevin, did the best he could with what little the owner had provided. He offered for me to shower in the guides trailer while he worked to fix the shitty water heater in our trailer. When we went to hunt, the camp suburban died in the drive way of the hunting ranch and our guides girl friend had to drive another shitty camp vehicle down to the hunting ranch for us. Some of the stands were okay, but most of them were trashy. Especially the metal platform with a broken down office chair to sit in.
Our guide took us on 2 stock hunts for rams. We spent hours trampling through the brush, only to discover that the owner had been lying to the both of us. The owner had told our guide that there were atleast 3 rams out there, but when we found them they were on the other side of the fence line.
Our food was good, luckily that was one thing the owner had little control over. After the 1st night, the lights (if you can call them that) at the lighted feeders quit working and we had to drive to the next town to buy spotlights. The owner is a lowlife and needs to be shutdown. He sells hunts for animals that he doesn't have and our guide couldn't give us a location when we asked about the high fence ranch because he didn't know anything about it. We didn't even have the sodas and water the owner had promised would be provided, luckily we brought our own.
One of the other comments said that the owner wanted to be a guide real bad, so he became a real bad guide. I think the owner had just enough disposable income to open this below average business on someone else land, and then realized he didn't have what it takes to be an outfitter. I hope others will read this post before they purchase a hunt with this scam of a company. I wish I had. The owner wouldn't even show his face in camp while we were there, forcing us to complain to the guide when he had no control over the irresponsible choices of the owner.
