Starting it off Right!Written on: 11/04/2007 20:26 by: Hardy
A little first day/last day hunt here at Campos Viejos/Nuestro Sueno to kick things off this year. Surprise, surprise, it's none other than my main hunting buddy Billy Rhodes who draws first blood...and it didn't take long. First afternoon in the stand and just as we were about to call it an evening and ready to stretch our legs from being all cramped up, out he stepped. I'm still trying to figure our how we got it done. 3 men (4 if you count me as 2) and a tripod in a blind built for, well, not that many. Cozy to say the least. Billy squeezed the trigger right as last light was fading and his awesome main-framed 8 point took a permanent dirt-nap. 156 gross B&C with a 9" muley fork, 23 1/2" main beams and 12+" G2's. What a frame! What a Buck! After that it was Billy's best bud John Pease's turn to touch one off, and on the last hunt John decided that a big 8 with stickers was good to go and let the air out of him. What a great character buck! John's big main framed 8 was nearly 20" wide and had 6 scorable stickers (4 more that were close) and measure in at just under 140" B&C gross. It was a great way to end what is always a fun hunt, and a fantastic way to start the season. Thanks to John and Billy for making that way. Good Hunting! Hardy
