East Texas Bass Fishing

My earliest memories of the outdoors as a child are standing in the same spot as these photos. There are some differences. I walked to the pond from my Grandparents house, used a cane pole and caught crickets and grasshoppers in the field for bait. I didn't think about having a radio, snacks, and bottled water didn't exist.

Usually, I fished alone except for one hour a day when my Grandmother came to fish for dinner. (She usually caught more in that time than I caught all day).

From these earliest days, I remember watching the fish, turtles, frogs, birds, bugs, bats, trees, grass, deer, coyotes, and developing a deep love for the Texas Outdoors.

Before my children could walk I had them with me in the woods of our family place smelling the smells and listening to the sounds of nature. It brings me great pleasure to watch my children develop their own relationship with nature.

Jason, we had bottled water back then.  Tap water in an emptied milk jug.
