On a cool day in Nov.1971 near Magnolia, Tx. in Montgomery co. my mom set out for her morning hunt.She finds the old railroad timber at the edge of the woods that days before my father had drove a nail in for her to rest her rifle on for a steady shoot.Around 7:15am she hears a noise in the woods in front of her.It is a doe,she takes her with a single shot from her savage model 99 .243. After confirming the kill she returned to the timber not wanting to disturb my father,or grandpa's hunt. She is seven months pregnant with my older sister, tired and falls to sleep leaning against a tree.When about 8:00am she is woke by a noise in the woods. Her vision blurred she see's a deer coming toward her with it's head down. Now only 25yrds from her she see's horns 10 of them,trying to set her rifle on the nail she hits the gun "CLUNK" the buck never raised his head.With one shot she takes him.Excited, but still not wanting to disturb anyone she returns to her seat. At around 9:00am she hears another noise coming thru the woods, this time thinking it was my father,and grandpa coming to her aid she stands up. When all of a sudden she see's that it is a long horn spike. She once again takes the animal with one shot. She was asked by my father what all shooting was about so she showed him. He could not believe she had tagged out in one mornings hunt. She had the 10 mounted.
