Opening weekend went very well out here. Despite the warm weather, there were a lot of deer out and moving around. Although our hunter missed a shot at a large buck, he is planning on coming back in a couple of weeks for another try at it.
Colby got a nice size 8 pt, tonight around 6:00 pm. Congratulations!!
B & C Record (16 pt.- 203.375- 155 ;bs. field dressed!!) last Sunday, just up the road on the Davis place. 2nd largest ever killed in Shackelford County. Front page of the Abilene Reporter News http://www.reporternews.com/news/2009/nov/12/trophy-whitetail/?partner=popular
We have another succsessful hunter out here this weekend. Kurt got a nice 8 pt, this afternoon and just like Colby last weekend, he did it in less than 1/2 hour! Congratulations Kurt on your first kill! I will try and get pics of him from the processor before he goes to the taxidermist. Speaking of processors, I have to put in a good word for Gary Hendrix and his "Wild Thing" at Oh! Deer Processing in Abilene, TX. If you are in the area and require processing, go see Gary. His facilities are immaculant and from what I am hearing, the "Wild Thing" really does a fantastic job. He is running a special right now, $125.00 for processing plus sausage, breakfast sausage and jerky. Check him out, you won't be dissapointed!
I was out at their ranch past weekend i saw alot of deers running around. There was always fresh poop by the feeder...I could least get another bigger buck but the wind was blowing from the blind to the feeder...I saw the buck looking directly at me, it probably smelled me and was gone... when i came back later in the evening i saw new fresh deer track poop and fur by the same feeder ... There are also alot of coyotes it also startled the deer before i could my shot off...
The lodging also pretty nice, good food and they gave me more beer i can drink...
oh deer processing
There is a "Special Late Season" in Jones County January 4-17, 2010 for spike and antlerless. Todate, noone has left our place dissapointed! Don't miss out, call or email today to reserve your dates.
Our first deer season went very well! We met some really great people and everyone had a good time. Thanks to all who chose to hunt "The Poor Farm" for the 2009-2010 season. Now, we're gearing up for the Spring Turkey season. I understand this is going to be an entirely different ballgame...
