Additional Information
Overview: My name is Ray Rankin (but everyone calls me Capt. Ray). I am a Certified Coast Guard Captain with all the required training, licenses and insurance to ensure that your trip is both safe and enjoyable.
A native of south Texas, I grew up fishing the rocks of Baffin Bay, the upper Laguna Madre and the Land Cut. I have a lifetime of experience fishing the Texas Gulf Coast, twenty-six years exclusively fishing the crystal clear waters of the Laguna Madre.
Bay Fishing in the Laguna Madre
The highly productive body of water known as the Laguna Madres is a unique shallow water bay ecosystem that is home to redfish, speckled trout, flounder and a variety of other game fish year round. These pristine, crystal-clear waters truly offer some of the finest saltwater fishing Texas has to offer. Whether you enjoy drift fishing, wade fishing, or fly fishing, Laguna Outdoors can provide you with an enjoyable day on the bay.
A day on the Laguna Madre usually consists of wade fishing early morning to catch redfish as they stealthily cruise the flats, then drifting or wading deeper water during the late morning to early afternoon for trout. However, I always try to please the customer by asking their preference. Fishing hours are from daylight until approximately 2:00 pm. Fishing beyond 2:00 pm is at the discretion of the captain. We do not provide half day trips. All trips are considered a full day regardless of their length.
Offshore Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico
Located only 9 miles east of Port Mansfield, the indigo blue water of the Gulf of Mexico is home to king and spanish mackerel, mahi-mahi (dolphin), cobia and red snapper. These are only a few of the species of game fish we may encounter. During certain times of the year, we actually "sight cast" to red snapper! In fact, most of the snapper rocks are within sight of Padre Island National Seashore.
Fishing hours are from daylight until approximately 3:00 pm. Fishing beyond 3:00 pm is at the discretion of the captain. We do not provide half day trips. All trips are considered a full day regardless of their length.
