Additional Information

Overview:

The Axis Deer is one of the most beautiful animals we have on the ranch. Native to India these animals have a striking reddish-brown coat, marked with very distinct white spots & a black dorsal stripe that runs down the back. White is also lined underneath the inside of the leg, belly, & underneath the throat. The Axis buck can be hard horned anytime of the year. The bucks usually have three tines that measure trophy quality in length anywhere from 27-36 inches tall. The bucks average around 35 inches high at their shoulders and weigh anywhere from 150-250 pounds. The does are much smaller & usually weigh anywhere from 75-125 pounds. The Axis meat is one of the best tasting venison you'll put in your mouth. They are grazers much like cattle & don't have the gamey taste like Whitetails. Axis usually do not store fat so the meat has no marble. The Axis steak has .06 grams of fat, 26 calories, and 13.9 mg cholesterol. In comparison, skinless chicken has .88 grams of fat, 34 calories, and 20.0 mg cholesterol. Lean beef has 1.76 grams of fat, 41 calories, and 16.86 mg cholesterol.

The Blackbuck Antelope is native to India & Pakistan. The female are tan in color and usually weigh 40-70 pounds while the males weigh 44-125 pounds. The mature males are black along the upper body with white around the rings of the eye, belly & inner legs. The horns on the Blackbuck are spiral shaped reaching 15-25 inches in length.

The Fallow Deer is of European descent. Fallows can be easily mistaken for other exotic do to their various colors. There are up to 7 colors, but most on the ranch are: white, spotted, chocolate, tan & roam. The buck weighs between 125-175 pounds and the doe about 65-100 pounds. The antlers are palmated with multiple points.

The Mouflon Sheep are relatively small animals that are native to the Mediterranean Islands of Corsica, Sardinia, Malta & Cyprus. The males usually stand 28-30 inches in height, while the ewes stand only 25-28. The male can weigh up to 120 pounds, while the ewes weigh up to 70 pounds. Both sexes are brown with white on their underside. The older rams have darker brown/black bodies with a very distinct white saddle across their backs. The mouflon horns have broad, curving horns that point forward with outward-turning tips. A trophy quality ram can range anywhere 26-30 inches length.
