Eric,  Seems the turkey out here in West Texas have gone the way of the quail.  I haven't seen a turkey on the 4 sections I have access to in about 6 months.  Not even a track around the ponds (tanks).  Good luck.

I'm sure no biologist, but turkey populations appear to be cyclical, and aside from the typical things in WTX that can cause wild game population variations we've seen them very dependent on predator pressure.  My suggestion is if you're not seeing turkey, the first things to start looking for are coyotes, bobcat, cougars, or the like. 

The Turkey are more dependent on wet weather.Our family has had the same lease in Sutton County since 1966.The last 2 years were very dry & we had no Turkey hatch.It has been raining off & on since last October with a very wet spring.I was just out there this past weekend & you almost had to kick the Turkey's out of the way.I haven't seen a hatch like this in the past 5 years.There are few coyotes in Sutton Cty. for the simple reason that if there is a sighting everyone & all of thier cousins will come & hunt them down w/ a vengance.Haven't seen a coyote on the ranch in years.
