QDMA Deer Steward Course Attendees to Receive CFE Credits
Bogart, Ga. – The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) will host five Deer Steward Certification Courses in 2010. The individual certification program includes three levels of potential achievement. Each course offers the most advanced level of deer management knowledge to interested foresters, property managers, wildlife biologists, and other resource professionals.
Certified foresters and other professionals can earn Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) credits through the Society of American Foresters by attending a Deer Steward course. Level I attendees will receive 17.5 CFEs and Level II attendees will receive 15.0 CFEs.
Duane Means, a certified forester who attended Levels I and II courses in 2008, recently said, “With 15 years experience in forest and habitat management, I found the QDMA certification courses to be valuable learning experiences. They combined habitat, deer management, and deer hunting, together with organized and credible information, enabling me to better communicate with landowners about the connections between good forestry and deer management. I learned the latest information and techniques in deer management and am using them to help meet my clients’ goals. Also, the professional instructors, QDMA staff, and fellow student managers have proven to be great colleagues in my resource network. I would recommend QDMA certification courses to anyone practicing resource management involving deer and wildlife habitat.”
Level I Courses:
· February 25-28 – Kingsville, TX at Texas A&M University
· April 16-19 – Highland, NY at Indian Ridge Farm
· June 4-7 – Clemson, SC at Clemson University
Level II Courses:
· July 23-26 – Chestertown, MD at Chesapeake Farms Research Center
· August 20-23 – Garnett, SC at Webb Wildlife Center
* Courses must be taken in succession.
