Questions about older Remington Model 700?

I acquired a 1966 Model 700 Remington 7mm Magnum BDL.  It's in pretty good shape and shoots great.  I'm not sure, but I think someone tried to refinish the stock w/ varnish or something.  The wood is extremely shiny and the bands aound the grip and behind the front black plastic tip are orange almost burnt orange(hook em). The band at the butt is yellowish. Are they supposed to be orange, yellow, or white?  Should I try to refinish or just leave alone?  I know it's a helluva project, but I don't mind.

The barrel is the original Hart barrel. Can this be reblued?  I'm not touching it b/c I like it the way it is. I was just curious.

The hinged floor plate is ok, but are detachable magazines made for this?

Any suggestions w/ this rifle?  Customizing, shooting, scoping?  I currently have a VX-2 3-9x40 Leupold on it.

Last question I promise:  This is considered "long action", right?

Here is the box mag conversion kit for the 700bdl. Any yes, Long action. Good rule of thumb is all magnums are LA, xcept the newer line of shot mags (wsm's, sa-ultra mags, etc)

Best off luck, I loved my ol 7mag, unfortunately someone thought they wanted it more than me (home robbery).

Hard to go wrong with a 7mm Mag...I've got one (Model 700 Sendero stainless) and just love it.

Thanks guys. I refinished the stock last week. I put alot of hours into it and not a big transformation.  It looks better no doubt and wood grain stands out more and its not as shiny.  After I stripped it w/ CitriStrip, I used the Tru Oil without staining it. I found that the lines are supposed to be white, but no amount of stripper, bleach, or elbow grease will get the orange out. I used a razor and saw that the rubber lines soaked up the orange. I bought white auto touch-up paint and attempted to paint the stripes.  The stripe on the butt came out beautifully, but the grip and forearm didn't.  I painted those solid black.  The paint matches my Chevy pickup so I didn't really waste money.  It was a great learning experience for when I buy an old, beat up gun.
