Just wanted to check in and see how the opener of the general season went for everyone?

It was a little warm and the moon was bright.  In Western Edwards County things were overall slow on our lease, one management buck was all that was harvested.  He was a 4.5 year old and in great shape body wise, he had well over 3/4" of fat on his backside.  Most of doe I saw with fawns were looking pretty drawn down. Yearling and long yearling bucks looked pretty good. Most bucks 2.5 and up looked to be in very good body condition. Also noted some bucks fighting, did not see any broken tines yet but that will come with the rut still a few weeks away there.

Looking forward to hearing some reports from others.

My brother in law Domingo Lopez III and Rancho "Sueno Mio" owner Juan Marin hunted at "La Panderosa" hunt club opening weekend and saw some small young bucks, good healthy does, but "Muy Grande" did not make his apperance.  The past two opening weekends have yielded nice bucks the past two years openning day.  I will be reserving some blind time  with my ten year old son Jared at the small ranch near Lake Corpus Christi Thanksgiving weekend.  The hunting report from "La Mota" ranch just east of Benavides TX was similiar, not much moving, things really heat up at my father's hunting lease late in the season.  I will have a special father son hunt during the week of Thanksgiving Holidays when I have some time off from work.  The outllook is positive with the arrival of some colder weather and possibly a little more rain!!!

The family that hunts our lease in gillespie county said they didn't see very much activity at all! They saw 9 deer in three days. 7 were decent to good bucks but that doesn't compare to the usual 20 to 30 plus deer everyday. They have a problem with sitting in a stand and staring at a feeder. The acorns are so good they are passing up the stands. which is good for me, I don't get to hunt til december and I'll find them.

Saw several deer. Only 2 legal bucks and 1 of them was a spike. Many more smaller bucks on the prowl. Nothing we wanted to shoot at this time.

Very slow at our place in Colorado County.  Lots of does, a few small bucks, nothing that got me excited.

Slow in Gillespie County. Saw plenty of deer prior to bow season, acorns dropped and goodbye deer. Did get a nice 3 1/2 yr. spike last weekend before  rifle with my bow. Then nothing. Sure hope they come out this weekend.

I had a very nice opening weekend in Sonora. I saw several mature bucks along with quite a few youngsters. Went back last weekend and saw some serious chasing by the youngsters and spotted a few more mature bucks. I think full blown rut is very close. I am headed back this weekend and hope to hunt a few of the spots that the wind did not favor the first two weekends. If the opportunity arises....buck down!

It was and continues to be good on our place in SE Jones County.  We have had hunters here each weekend since November 6.  Each weekend, they report no shortage and all are in very good condition.  To date, there have been 2 8 pt. taken and both were very nice.  The first two weekends, a shot was taken and missed at (I believe the same) 12-14 pt.  Our hunter this weekend, Kurt, got his very first ever Friday night and is hoping to get a large doe this morning.  With both bucks, the guys were in the blinds for less than 1/2 hour.  Not being a hunter, I do not know if that is a good thing or not but they both were very happy with the results.  They say the rut is in mid-swing around here and the evidence seems abundant; broken tines, tree rubbing and bulky necks.  I am hoping to go out this evening and get some more pictures.

My opener was terrible.  I sat in my recliner at home with a sling and a heating pad nursing a torn tendon in my left forearm which I damaged earlier trying to load a ground stand into a truck by myself.  Once again I am forced to say, "Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time."

All of October was doe, doe, doe so youth weekend my son took his new Pawn Shop 270 he bought mowing yards this last summer and shoot 2 does about 1-minute apart. We've hunted every week end since Bow season and the only buck we've seen was on the way to the lease after a friday night football game. But we will be there if the big guy shows up to chase some of these does around!!! Good Luck     I.D. YOUR TARGET AND BEYOND
