This buck was shot outside Somerville, Texas on the JJJ Ranch. It is Very Much HIGH fenced and priced accordingly. My brother knows this guy in Brenham and he would not say what he paid but if you look at their website it set him back between $12,000 and $16,000. Website is triplejjjranch.com.

Cole, thanks for the info on this buck! I have been wondering ever since I recieved an email about it a few weeks ago and posted it on here. I knew the vegetation and so forth looked like it could be from that area but I thought it was too good to be true (a low fence kill).
Why can't people just tell their story for what it is? If your wealthy enough to "pay to play" that's fine, but at least admit it! I guess money can help them over come their feelings of inadequecy as a true fair chase hunter.

I agree...you go to the right store, pick out your merchandise, pull the trigger, and get the bill. If that's how someone wants to hunt that's up to them - more power to 'em. But, even if I wanted to spend that much to hunt not sure that I'd want to.
Hunting for our family has always been more than the horns. Its the memories, the comraderie, the family times, the conversations, the challenge, the whole ball of wax (not to mention the fried backstrap!). So, when/if you ever do get one for the wall it makes you savor it even more.

David, it is nice to see we and apparently a lot of others think alike on this website! Not only that, but I really believe the future of hunting, and the freedom to keep hunting, relies on the fair chase hunters among us.
Hope you and all have a great season!

I am in the same boat as the rest of you..
while it's a magnificant deer, I am a little dissapointed to learn it's off a commercial high fence operation..
personally, I think that stuff is killing deer hunting for the average guy, making it so expensive most people can't or won't spend that kind of money
to me, deer hunting is about time in the woods with my family and friends...
my fondest memories are of deer hunting with my dad, brothers and uncles growing up, low tech... sitting in a tree freezing!

Charles,
When you get down to it, it really is the memories and the family. That's one thing money can buy.
I agree its a great deer, and I'd be pleased as punch to have it on my wall. But, there would always be something missing (besides a large chunk of what I make a year!). Somehow things are always more meaningful when you have to work for them.

Ken and David,
That is why I so enjoy this website. I do not get to log on as much as I like and I also just want pertinent information on what is going on out there. Just to give those who don't know the HILL COUNTRY is gonna be a @#$%# this year. We went ot the lease last weeekend and the feed pens looked liked the yellow-brick road. I sat in the blind with my 9 year-old daughter and we saw 3 yes 3 deer all weekend in Tyvedale,Tx. We saw more exotics than whitetail. This weekend I plan on getting out of the blind and doing some still hunting.........what else you gonna do? If I could only find a reason to blame this on OBAMA

I treasure the idea - if not the dream - of a low fence typical 10 point 150 class buck. However, I admit that I have a HUGE Bison on my wall. It wasn't a high fence hunt, but regardless, it wasn't a hunt. I killed it with a bullet to the ear. It was buying a piece of art to put on the wall that represents American History. Instead of flying to NYC with cash, I flew to New Mexico with a gun (and cash). My point is that the species, the method, the geography, the story, and who you are with all come together to create a memory and that is what matters. I cherish my free range 140 whitetail, my cross-horned pronghorn, my Bison, etc., etc., for all different reasons.

TO,
You're right. The particulars of a hunt don't have to be the same for everybody, and that's one of the greatest things about where we live and what we do.

its kinda like huntinf at ft worth zoo in my opinion. i agree that hunting is not about the killing of animals its the people and experience with those people.some of my best hunts and best memories of hunts were with my dad, brother and uncle and a couple of close friends and no animals were killed on some of those hunts.
