WY Pronghorn Hunt with Chairbound Hunters

A storm front was pushing through from western Canada as we crossed the Colorado state line into Wyoming. That's one of the neat things about being at elevation. You can see rain coming from 20 miles away.

By the time we reached Wheatland, it had passed and the sun was shining again. It was supposed to be perfect antelope hunting for the next 2-3 days... And it was!

Big Al picked me up early the next morning and we headed west out of town to check out some of the ranches he has permission to hunt. Deer & antelope were all over the alfalfa fields grazing at first light so you know how that fired up we were to get on the hunt.

Clear, sunny skies and light winds met us on the high plains just west of the mountains. Right away, we were spotting speedgoats
and glassing them for a nice buck. Another disabled hunter named Sandy was with us and I told him he could shoot first since he'd been hunting for a few days already.

we ended up coming across a nice 15" goat that afternoon that we followed around until we got him away from his does and could get closer too. Sandy missed him at 200 yds the first time and connected at 300 the second, after the wind had picked up. He hit him too far back b/c of the wind but the shot still put him down. Antelope can't pack much lead from what I've seen.

So we drive up on this goat and he jumps up and runs down into a draw and stops to check us out. Sandy's next shot put him down for good.

The next day, it was just Al & I hunting. We came across and were glassing a herd of about 40 goats, taking our time to look over the 3 or 4 bucks that had potential. All were nice, but just not quite big enough. As we were leaving that group, we spotted another buck with a wider spread leading his 3 does away from the big group. Right away I decided to try for him.

Three times I almost got a shot right there but he just kept going away and wouldn't stop. So we followed him to until he broke away from the does and we dropped down behind this rise to gain some distance & elevation on him. When we popped up on top, he stood about 200 yds away and I busted him with the first shot from my new 7mm I had made. Great hunt in beautiful country. I had a nice 14" with 6.5" bases.
