Absolutely not, just make sure it is fun for her and you are prepared to leave, entertain, whatever it takes to make sure it is a positive experience.  I took my daughter with me starting at 2 years old, obviously, she did not have a clue as to the hunting aspect but we kept her entertained and as the years progressed we knew her tolerances better and better.  Ultimatley after making absolutely sure she could handle a gun (training with a scoped .22) she killed her first deer, a doe, at age 7.  By 11 years old she could judge deer as well or better than most of the members of our lease. She is now in college but hunts with us whenever she can.  Enjoy every minute outdoors with the kids, the rewards are absolutely amazing!

I would go out back in the tall grass and sit with my son when he was only 3yrs. old but never shot the gun. Now I have to sneak out to Bow hunt he's 13 yrs.old and I'm scared to put him in a tree by his self. We sat in our ground blind last yr. and youth weekend we had a nice 8pt. 40ft. in front of us he seemed to just apear out of nowhere my son kept looking way out there and couldn't see the deer in front of us until it turned and ran off!!!! STILL the best hunt I have ever been on!!!!Idenify Your Target!!! God Bless!!!

I don't think there really isn't a set age...we started taking our sons a little later, both around 8 years old.  I think Ken said it best - they need to have fun and dad needs to be flexible.  Each year we got them closer and closer to the action, but also taking some time to throw rocks in the river, climb a hill, take a nap, whatever.  And, each child will be a little different on how they view things.  Our oldest son had a lot of problems sitting still, so we brought him along a little more slowly.  But, he caught rubber at 11 when we were hunting on the ground and a little forkhorn was about 5'-6' from him.  He could actually hear the buck breathing breathing...he looked over at me and his eyes were like saucers!  From that point on he saw the 'gain from the pain', and has developed into a very good hunter.  Our youngest took to the patience aspect of things a lot faster, on his first hunting trip he saw me take a nice 8 point and he's never looked back.  He has to work on the shooting and tracking skills a little more, but with his attitude it'll come.

I agree, my daughter was between 4-5 when I began taking her.  My son just had his first real hunt 3 weeks ago and he is 5 1/2.  Booth loved every minute of it and still do.  It is a great oppertunity to spend alone time with them and bond.  My daughter has way more patience than my boy though, we can stalk and ground hunt.  My boy ya better find a tower blind or a sound proof one "LOOK THERE IS ONE DAD" ya David lets watch him run....lol  either way get the kids out and teach em how to have fun!  Thanks for listening!

I have been taking my daughter since she was three. She is great in a stand. Even at 3 I never had to leave the stand because she got restless. Now its my sons turn too. He is 3 this year and I will take him out a few times also. Been looking forward to getting him out there also.

Guns don't kill people....Its those pesky little bullets making lots of holes that all the blood leaks out of.

My Dad made me wait til I was 10 years old before I could go.  By then I was well trained in handling a gun, an accomplished fisherman, and my patience had reached a point that I could sit still for a long time.  I saw deer on my very first outing, and have been an hunter ever since.  That being said...my son turned one year old today, and I don't think I can wait til 10 years old.  We (me and my bro-in-law) took my 5 year old nephew on a rabbit hunt last year. That did not go so well, but he had a good time.  We are thinking about taking him on his first deer hunt this year.  Remember, you don't have to take him/her hunting to get them interested in the outdoors early.  If they are not ready to hunt, take them fishing, shed hunting, camping, anything to get the fire started.

That's a good point Michael...we've taken our kids hiking, or fishing, or something, since they've been able to walk, and often on our backs.  Hunting can come as a natural extension of that.  My mom took me in the 20 ac woodlot behind our house from the time I was barely able to walk, and it stuck fast.  By the time the desire to hunt came around I'd spent countless hours in the woods watching game, tracking deer, etc.  My dad wasn't much of a hunter, but thankfully I had a friend that was.  In fact, I talked with him a year or so ago after over 25 years of losing touch.  He still hunts too, and his sons go with him.

ANTLERS

I started taking my son to the ranch when he was 18 months old.  He would sit on the 4-wheeler while we loaded corn in the feeders.  Then before we could close the lid on the feeders he had to take a hand full of corn in both hands while I lifted him up high over my head so he could drop his handfuls into the feeder.  He's been helping fill feeders ever since.  He was 3 1/2 when he sat in the deer blind with me for the first time.  He was the best little trooper you ever saw.  Very quiet and patient (something his 17 year old brother was not).  I didn't shoot a deer with him in the stand with me until he was 4 1/2 though.  That year we were up there on Thanksgiving week, and it turned cold one morning.  It was about 32 degrees and I bundled him up like a little eskimo before we went out.  Around 8:00 a.m in the morning, I noticed he was really, really cold even though he never said anything or made a sound.  I asked him if he wanted to go back to the cabin, get some hot cocoa and watch some cartoons.  He just nodded his head up and down really fast.  I immediately took him back to the cabin and set him up nicely with the cocoa and cartoons.  Later that weekend he was with me in the stand when I shot a deer in the evening.

The whole point, as previously noted by the others, is to make it fun, be flexible to the needs of that particular child, and above all, make safety a paramount concern.  I am happy to say that my son has been hunting with me every year since then.  Sometimes he wants to go out with me, and some times he doesn't.  It's always his choice.  He just turned 10 in August and he has decided that this is the year he will shoot his first deer.  He has invested more sweat equity in the 131 acres we have in Rocksprings, than my other son or anyone else I have let hunt on the property.  Therefore, I told him that this year, nobody will be allowed to shoot a deer on my property (including myself) until he has "his" deer down.  I think I am more excited than he is....

I started tagging along as soon as I could keep up or get carried out. Slept on the floor of the deer stand until the deer came out. Started practicing fire arm safety around 6. Began hunting with a shotgun alongside my dad around 8. Started hunting by myself around 12.
