Just went out to my property to see how things look after being gone for so long. I felt like just breaking down. My feeder that has been feeding year round for 4 years was a mess. The bandits had gotten thru the wire mesh and gutted the wiring in the timing mechanism. Which probably happened because it was empty. The person who was supposed to take care of that for me, in trade for getting to hunt there, didn't hold up to their end of the deal. My stand had blown over and was laying in pieces. My game cam looks like it took a nice direct hit from a large hail stone. Basically, I have to start over completely from scratch. The only reason I left any of this out while I was away is because I had someone who I thought would take care of it for me. Oh well, live and learn. I'm thru whining now.

Really sorry to hear that Dana. I really hope everything works out for you. It is very sad that you cannot depend on some people to do what they say they will do.

I don't think I would trust that person to maintain your stuff anymore.

I am going through the same thing. Just leaving my feeder running from the end of deer season to last turkey season, I had one feeders damaged by a coon and two damaged by squirrels. Just fixed them and replaced one timer. Taking them back out tomorrow.

Had to do the same thing. Replaced my varmit cages with hog panel cages. Changed all the wiring to electrical bx sheilded wire. Lets see them get into it now.

This story sounds so familiar.  I too, had someone who was supposed to be filling up the corn feeders in turn for hunting rights.  Unfortunately, once deer season was over, there was one excuse after another for not having enough money to fill the feeders.  Similarly, once the feeders were empty the wind, coons and hogs made quick work of my feeders and game cam.  I have subsequently replaced all my 3 legged feeders with 4 legged feeders.  Place heavy guage varmint cages over all of them and covered all the wires with metal conduit.  It was a little expensive at first, but I guess much cheaper over the long run.

P.S.  Built my feeders out of 85 gallon barrels.  They hold right at 450 lbs each.  I will never leave anyone else responsible for filling my feeders.  The more you have invested in something, the more interest you have in taking care of it!

I didn't really have a choice in hoping someone else would take care of it. I was going to be out of town for over a year. I have a very small peice of land and I had some really nice deer coming in over the last few years. My property doesn't have much to offer other than what comes out of the feeder and good cover. But cover wont keep them around if there is nothing to eat. So I was hoping it would work out. All I can hope for now is that the bucks that I have been watching grow up around there will still be around.
