I would like to know what are yalls opinon on the 7mag? also why is it hard to find reloading componets for the 7mag! i used to use it in oregon when i lived there, i had to reload it there, even tho there is tons of factory ammo. my load consisted of a 150gr, nosler balistic tip over 63 gr. of imr 4831. traveling at about 3130fps and hitting at about 3200ft-lbs. going off of noslers reloading guid. i used it on everything out there, elk were running scared lol. of course so were the blacktails and muleys, and the whitetails(yes we have whitetailed deer in oregon, the columbia whitetale) any ways is this load to much for critters out here, if so should i step it down a bit? i was accurate out over 500 yards with it. i can not find that powder out here and i would like to know what is its equivelint?

thank yall again.

I shoot the 7MM Ultra Mag. 160 grain nosler partition. I get my ammo handloaded in Mississippi to factory specs. Not that I wanted too. They stopped making it!

I shoot a 7mm Remington Mag (Model 700 Remington Sendero) using a 140 grain Nosler Partition loaded by Federal and wouldn't take for it.  The only thing I've had done to the rifle is a trigger job, breaks at 3 lbs+.   2/3" at 100 yards right out of the box with this load.

If you're accurate out to 500 yards I wouldn't touch a thing on your load.  Yes, that's a pretty heavy for most of the whitetails/muleys/pronghorns you'll find here but you can shoot that far depending on where you hunt.

As far as reloading supplies go I don't do that (right now), but it seems just about everything is hard to come by when it comes to reloading supplies - primers, brass, and powder especially.  Right now I can't find ammunition for my 7mm.  Its simply not available because everyone's buying it up.

that sound advise my friend, and i do thank you all. the trick is getting my toys out here to me from oregon. its an older savage 110 with the 28'' barrel on it toped with a bushnell dawn to dusk 3x9x40. (what i mean by "older" is it does not have the accu trigger and has the longer barrel) i was thinking about just getting the old tried and true rem green box. that load is good out to about the same distance.

what are the federal loads like for the 7mag? i know they are spendy but ive heard a lot of good things  from a family member who got some for his .06 and said that old gun of his does very well with them.

in my opinion, there is no such thing as overkill!  i shoot a 7mag and i love it.  more times than not, if i hit something, it doesn't go very far.  stick with the 7mag

oh i do plan on it my good friend, i was looking for more/diferent loads to play with, just to see what i can do with them, my handloads are the best so far, but its going to be hard going to get that goign again. i am a 7mm addict and i will not go to the rehab class if you paid me all the money in the world, i showed a buddy what that gun of mine can do with factory and handloads, its a beast i tell ya lol. when can punch threw a big water tank thats has an inch thick of steel as its body, and go threw both sides and keep going, you know i got a powerhouse. my grandpa calls it a howitzer , i could level a mountain said with it  so he claims lol.

John,

Federal has a number of loads for the 7mm Rem Mag (link here).  I shoot the 140 grain partition...seems like that's the weight my rifle likes.  And, the partition is a great bullet.  However, with our friends in government trying to push the 'no lead' idea I may have to change to a copper-free load like the 140 grain Barnes Triple Shock.  My son and I shoot triple shocks in our .308s and they do very well.

You might also try IMR-4350.I shoot 65.3grs out of my two 7mags @3200fps with 150gr bullets.Remember each rifle is different so start lower and work up.The 7mag is a great all around cartridge.

They can talk about other calibers and short magnums all they want, but for North American game, with the possible exception of the .30-06, you can't beat a 7mm Remington Magnum.

That powder I was trying out is the discontinued Winchester WXR.It is the same thing as Reloader-22 as far I can tell. They are both Double Based powders, made in Sweden and I've compared the two and get the same velocities from both.Grafs is selling it for $110.00 for an eight lb. keg and under $15.00 for one pound containers.I've found it to be very accurate in my 7mmSTW and my 300WSM.I've been using IMR-4350 in my 7mag for the last fifteen years and I think the Win.WXR is as good or better.

nice, now can you do it with out a bench and bags? can you do it standing up, off-handm, prone, and any other difficult shooting situation, because benches and the like are fine for when  you are playing around with new loads, but the real test is when you take away that support. true the more steady you are the better shot you can place. but there are times when you have no time for taking out the Shooting sticks, me i take keep my scope power on the low side and i am accurate off hand and prone out to the distance stated above, i have tested my self that way for a good reason, because just about every shot i have taken was way beyond 100yds, the longest shot i took was 850 yds, and i did not take in account for the balistic tips trajectory, and i was shooting up hill. but i was really close to the animal, i did not miss by very much, i was either shooting over the back of that animal or at its feet. i was able to see where the bullets were landing. but i over compansated. and i took to the range and i got used to the bullet i had selected and but i did not touch a thing on the scope. with a corlokt from remmington, i am 1" high at a 100yds, with the balist tip i am 3" high at 100yds, and i was dead on at 300. and had to raise a bit for the 500 yds. so i left things alone. and that thing is nasty lol. i took a beautifull 3x3 with 3 browtines, back home.he had tall dagger points and completly semectrical.his body was the biggest i have ever taken, i am a fairly good size guy, and can lift alot, and i could not pick this boys shoulders up off the ground. after feild dressing him. he had talo completely around his liver and heart.  soo its important to be completely competant with the load and your gun in every situation. please forgive me if i sound preechy or rude, that is not my intention.

To get back to your original question in your first post, the point of me posting the photos was for not how well I shoot, but to show the capability of the powder I was shooting.I tested the Win. WXR in four rifles and got excellent groups with it,however my 270 liked the IMR-4350 the best. You were wondering about a powder for your 7mag,so I was just offering whats been working good for me.

yes, i was wondering whats compareable to the imr-4831. in terms of burn speed. and cost. because imr-4831 was pretty affordable and really clean burning with mid range burn rate.
