HELP

Hello Hunters,

Don't get me wrong, I am a hunter, I know how to hunt, I am experienced in the field of hunting deer, I am soft on the subject of natural occuring events in deer events.  My questions are

1. When do deer drop their antlers, I hunt in just South of Jacksboro but I was driving down a county road outside of Llano in the Hill Country and I saw a decent six point and a young fork horn that was still inside his ears.  From what I was aware, the antlers were dropped.  This may be different though because where I hunt is several hundred miles north of Llano and i haven't seen a deer on the camera in the past 7 weeks of antlered deer.  Is it different because of the location of the deer?

2.  When do does give birth to fawns?

Thanks,

Hogkiller

Deer in Texas start dropping in January and dont stopn until the first of April. I hunt just East of Stephenville and havent seen a buck in two weeks. I have seen deer with antlers around the first of April especially the futher south you get.

In north Texas does usually drop their fawns the first week in June. I have seen them the last week in may all the way to the last wee in August. I hope this helps

Dylan- Deer gestation is about 200 days, so you'll need to backtrack the peak of the rut and go 200 days from there to get the peak fawning period for your area.

Antler drop varies with each buck some drop as early as January and I've seen bucks still with antlers as late as May (unusual but does happen).  On our lease near Sonora, majority of antler drop is from mid Febraury to mid March.
