I'm not your typical broke college kid, though definetly broke, I'm far from typical...I'm a student at the University of Arkansas I pay my own way, and every spare penny and moment I have goes into bowfishing. My best friends and I have most likely spent more time on the lake than we have in any class room, bowfishing is what we eat and breath! We have decided to take our spring break next year (March, 2010) and head for Texas! We have done our research and I know that Sam Rayburn is where to go for big buffalo, grassies and possibly our fair share of bigheads "which we dont have here in our area"...and then on up to the Trinity River for those GIANT gator gar! ...the only problem is that we dont have the money to hire a guide, well I wouldnt call it a problem, just a minor setback... Thats why I'm asking you guys and gals for your advice on where to look on these bodies of water. I know your not going to give up your "honey holes", and I dont blame you a bit, but any advice you may have will be greatly appreciated.  Again, unlike the typical college guys who would come back from Spring break with hellacious hangovers...we just want to come back with fish, "hopefully big one's" and tons of memories to tell our families and friends!   Thanks guys!!!

Choke Canyon is another great water body for Buffalo, big gar, and of course, carp and Tilapia. Lots of gators to keep you in the boat too!

NO HOUSES ON THAT LAKE! Turn the radio up! The only lit up boat ramp that has over night is the Calliham unit. The others are out in the boonies unattended totally, so I always worry about leaving things overnight out there. Its a great lake to bow fish without worrying about disturbing home owners. There's camping at the lake, and several cheap enough hotels in Three Rivers to do the poor boy type trips. Good Fishing!

Only one gator gar per person per day as of Sept. 1, 2009. May want to keep that in mind when choosing a lake.
