A .223 works well for coyotes, racoons, and those type of smaller (and less armored) varmints.  Unless you're a good enough shot to consistently hit pigs in the head I'd use a larger caliber for them.

I am not familiar with the Survivor Rifle, but I have their Handi Rifle in .270. It  has a very heavy barrel and is very accurate. For a break action, the trigger pull is pretty good also. Another good thing about their family of single shot break actions, is that you can get extra barrels, so it becomes an inexpensive T/C Encore.

Unless you are shooting shoats for meat, I would use something larger for pigs. A pigs brain is very small and easy to miss even if you hit the head. The .223 has not got enough shock action for a reliable shot on a grown pig.

One of the advantages of the extra barrels is that you could get a larger caliber for hogs and deer and swap when desired. I would recommend .270, 7 mm 08,  or one of the .30 calibers.

For what it is worth my dad has a survivor and it is a tack driver off the bags and has performed excellent in the field.  I am originally from Wyoming, we regularly have 60+ mph winds to hunt in, and the bull barrel on my dads H&R helps to make it possible to varmint hunt no matter what the conditions.
