dstrong,  That's what I thought.  He was shot last weekend by one of our lease members.  The check station aged him at 6 1/2 and scored him at 157 5/8 with 6 inch bases.   They have new people working the check station and I think their aging could possibly be flawed.  We have a 6 1/2 rule on trophys, so I was going to give him a year or two and see what he could grow into, but I guess we'll never know.

I see I worded my 1st post incorrectly.  I meant the pic's were of a deer that was killed on our lease.

I'm hard pressed to make that deer 6.5 by the pics.  I could go back and forth between 4.5 and 5.5.

Hardy, where you at?????

id say 4 1/2 judging by the shape of his head and nose, if he had more of a 'roman nose' id say 5 1/2

6.5 seems a little bit of a stretch, but I guess it is possible. A super nice deer though.

Curious, where is your lease?

No matter what the age, a very nice deer.  Would definitely have been interesting to see what he would have looked like next year.....

Texican,  The lease is 27 miles north of Laredo in Webb county.  We are low fence.  This buck was hanging out by a large dry creek that runs thru the property.  It holds water for a month or two after a 2"-3"rain.   I also did not think he was 6 1/2.

This is my 1st year on the Callaghan, the last 3 years I was in Asherton, Dimmit county.  Yes, he needs to go.  So far I am seeing better genetics here, a couple of 4 1/2 droptines, the 17 pointer that was killed and several with splits, kickers and split and bladed G 1s.  I am still learning the place, I put up my towers in the spring.  Put cameras in the ranch feed pens in August and discovered the best looking deer are pretty far from my blinds.  Hopefully the rut will send some of them by my blinds!  Aren't you hunting in Mexico?

I figured that is where you were.  The Calaghan has some good deer on it, so you should get a really nice deer.  They had a couple of spots advertised on here last year.  Not sure if it's the same pasture or not but they do have some good deer.  Yes, I hunt in Mexico.  I have been there going on 8 years now.  Season doesn't start until after Thanksgiving.  Rainfall this year was record rainfall and all fell at the right time.  Should be a good year.

I agree on the 17 point.  He doesn't look 6, but hey you never know.
