Does anyone have any experience with Monarch ammo? The price of shells has gone through the roof on all of my normal choices and I saw this brand at Academy last night at a very reasonable price but I didn't buy any because I wasn't sure about it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have been using monarch ammuniton for my AR15 and I have found that it is pretty good ammunition. It is accurate and I have not had any misfires in the 1-2 thousand rounds of it I have fired. The only down side that I have noticed is that the powder is dirty. A little more cleaning is required.

I have used them in my 30.06 and 243. They are made for Academy, its like there in store brand.  I have not had a problem with them. I have only fired them in practice.  They have the same balistic partern as the Remington shells of the same bullet weight.

As a general rule you get what you pay for, but the proof is how they shoot.  And, sometimes you get surprised.  I haven't shot Monarch at all, but a couple years back we got some Black Hills ammo at a reasonable price and haven't switched since.

If the round does well in your rifle and its consistent you might be on to something.  But, I'd shoot at least a box or so and see how they group before going through the re-zero process (if needed) with your gun and all that.  Don't know about you, but I find that a major pain.

I ran Monarch through my Glock 23 .40S&W as fast as I could pul the trigger and had no problems.  It seemed to be as clean as anything else I'd fired but I only ran 50rounds through it.

If could be different in a rifle though.  Especially an AR.

I bought some Monarch  ammo for my .30-06.  They left my rifle really dirty and wouldn't get better that 5in. groups. I won't buy them again.

ive shot them in my AR no problem. this year i tried them in my 7400 remington 270. at 100 yards they shot 1-1/2" groups, very good for a semi-auto. i killed a decent 7pt on public land this year with it. at 30 yards, hit right behind the shoulder, bullet came apart and turned the heart and lungs to jello. found a big chunk of the core in the opposite shoulder, no pass through. dropped in his tracks no problem. if he would have been farther out the bullet may have stayed together and passed through????  did what i needed it to do, im happy with it.
