Which Youth Model?

My son (and best hunting buddy a guy could want) just turned 9 and has been hunting with me since he was 2.  This year he wants to start shooting, instead of just watching me.  We tried a friends Remington 243 Youth Model last year, but the butt was still too long for him to get a proper grip on the rifle and he ended up with "scope eye".   Quite a shiner, but he did drill the bullseye at 90 yards.

My question is, "does anyone know of a youth model with a really small stock"?  My son is small for his age.  I would prefer a .243 so he can use it for many years, and if the stock were interchanageable for when he finally does grow, even better.

New England Arms makes a breech loading youth rifle/shotgun combo. It comes with an interchangeable shotgun and rifle barrel.

The stock is the perfect size. I have one and many kids other than mine have killed deer with it.

NEF gives you different combination options for the barrels, but I settled on a .20 ga. shotgun barrel and a .243 rifle barrel. The rifle will drive nails, and the shot gun is a great starter turkey, dove and duck gun. Having only one shot really teaches kids discipline and shooting skills.

Rossi makes a similar set up, but it is much lighter, so it kicks more, and I don't think it is as nice a gun.

Keep yer eyes peeled!

Take a look at the Ruger M77 Compact. I bought my son one when he was 8 and he is one of the smallest kids in his grade and it fit him just fine.
