The winner will come down to the ranch for a few days (I recommend at least 2) for a doe and possible cull buck hunt. 

I will donate my time and there's no charge for the deer.

The only cost will be for putting you up and feeding you at the lodge.

Hardy, can't find your e-mail address. I was wondering, if I were to win your contest. Instead of me coming to your place, could I forward the trip to a member of our armed forces and give one of them a chance to take a deer that they might not otherwise have? Just a thought. I have a good lease and get all of the meat that my wife and I need. We took 6 of them down to our lease last year and they had a ball. 2 of them had never hunted in Texas before, all got a deer. I would pay for their expences.

I think my guess was in the upper 220s and the buck is about 38.5 y/o.

And for anyone that hasn't entered yet...don't try to steal my guess - its sure to be a winner!

Andrew, I got your guess.  It came across without an e-mail address for whatever reason.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!! (we're only going with one buck...too busy before the season to do another right now)

Jarrod Leonard, with a guess of 172 5/8, missing by just 2/8 of an inch.  VERY IMPRESSIVE!

Texican was the next closest at 171 5/8...another great guess.

This buck was tough and that's why I picked him.  Incredible mass on this guy will "throw off" his over all size and make him appear smaller.  It was only after seeing him in the photo blind with another large buck that I realized just how big he was.

Here are a few measurements so that you can see where you were right/wrong:

Main Beams:  26 and 26 1/8

G2's:  13 5/8 and 12 6/8

G3's    11 and 10 7/8

H1(mass at base): 5 2/8 and 5 2/8.

Gross Score: 172 3/8" B&C

congrats jarrod , i need some more practice i was 20 inches and 1 year off.

wow, that guy fooled me on the score.  I had the age right but just had him over 150 on the score.  I thought that he had more mass but I cautioned on the conservative side.  I did a score sheet on this dude when I scored him, I will have to go back and see how far I was off everywhere.  Beam Length and Mass is the majority of it.  That was fun none the less.

The majority of people were fooled by this buck...you weren't alone.  Most of the guesses were in the 140's and 150's.   I'll go back and look, but I bet only 1/3 were 160 or better.

By the way, before I went to Kansas, I caught him in my photo blind.  This is still one of only 2 mature bucks I've seen so far in the blinds. 

He's fairly impressive this season.

WOW!  That a nice jump!!  I love the character with the drop an all.  He is well over 180 now!!  Very Nice

You are absolutely correct!  I used my laptop in Kansas to start this thing and must have missed your answer in the transfer when I returned.  I found it and you are undoubtedly a co-winner.
