These shots come from a good friend of mine that used to work here in Texas and took his management fundmentals and put them to work in Georgia.

When they took over this property it was over hunted, the buck-doe ratio was severely skewed and the age structure of the herd was horrendous.

Just 3 years in and whille there is still much work to be done, the fruits of their labor is evident in this beautiful 4 year old.

Their food plots and supplemental feeding protein have not only supplied the deer with proper nutrition, they have also allowed the native habitat to recover from the abuse of overcrowding in the doe section of the population.

I know Madison very well. My people are from Butts county, which is in the Jackson/Indian Springs area.

I have a nice 8 mounted and on my mantle that I took off my grandfathers farm when I was a young buck myself. Not the biggest buck, but every time I look at it, it reminds me of the days when my grandfather was alive and with us.

Speaking of which, my grandfather (who was old school, and learned to hunt as a necessity for food on the table), would plant peas to attact and supplement his deer LONG before people planted food plots to help manage herds.

Keep yer eyes peeled!

IDEA

You have a great great point. I think Texas Parks and Wildlife and other people like us need to spread the word about game management to as many people (hunters)as possible. Even the guys on the $400-$500 dollar leases (no disrespect what so ever! I am one of them!). I know more than a few people on these small leases that throw up a feeder and shoot whatever comes buy. I think these are the individuals that need to be educated a little more, what do you think? Just a thought. These smaller groups of hunters can help make a difference for everyone and your post and pictures prove it even more. Very good post!
