I thought VMAX were varmint bullets...if so I'd be concerned about penetration on deer-sized game.

BTW, I think the LEVERevolution uses an FTX bullet (flex tip technology)

I think the 30-30s use FTX (flex tip) bullets

The V-Max aren't the ones used in the LeveRevolution loads.  This one has a soft tip.  The V-Max is very similar to a Ballistic Tip.  Just a different manufacturer name and it does have a thinner wall so that it fragments on varmints.  It isn't recommended for medium size game, but I know of guys that do use them.  I use Sierra 85gr Varminter bullets in my 6MM for deer.  They are a soft point bullet though and will hold together a little better on deer.  I personally wouldn't use the V-Max in the 30-30 for deer.  A Nosler BT would be my choice for whitetailed deer only.  If you plan on using it for larger game.  I'd go w/ a soft point bullet (lead tip).

If in dought wetlap them, just fill a box with newspaper and magazines pack them in fairly tight & soak them down until their all wet.then fire a round into it then dig out the bullet out & you will know how deep it will penatrate & how the bullet performs.its close to how it will perform on a deer, try fusion 30-30 shells they mushroom good & at least in my marlin they shoot nice.

I use 120gr V-Max's out of my 7mm08. A full broadside, mid rib on a Fallow doe went straight through, leaving a fist sized exit wound. She still walked 30yds before piling up. Goats in the chest side on drop on the spot. A 60kg pig hit between the last and second last ribs while not quite straight away saw the projectile exit out the shoulder on the same side. I plucked the stripped jacket from his hide. I'll be changing to something a little more robust and not so thin in the jacket.

fyi, i seen in the last cabelas reloading catalog that they are offering the same bullets used in the leverevolution cartridges. they are very reasonably priced also.

i personally use the Nosler balistic tips, they hold up well, they are accurate and dependable, and minimal fouling in the berral. good slugs, the hornady spirepoints are a good sulg as well. they are built a bit heavier but doo well in any case. corelokts, and winchesters powerpoints did well too. all i ever use is the 7mm rem mag. i havent tried the fusion and i am very interested in them myself.
