I'm headed Friday to south Texas to trap some coyotes and bobcats.  We'll also be calling the whole time to see what we can get to come up.  Does anyone know somewhere between Austin and San Antonio where I can buy some of those foothold traps for coyotes?  We're just overrun with them.

www.RPoutdoors.com  I order all my leg hold traps from them and other trapping supplies which usually arive the next day if I place the order in the morning.

I don't know how experienced of a trapper you are, but don't forget drags, trap dye, and lures.  My favorite bait is Pro's Choice from Carman, but coyote gland lure, long distance call, etc. all can be good to have in the trap bag.

As far as the actual trap goes I highly reccommend an MB-650.  It is a 4 coil spring trap that is built well and has a proper gap between the jaws.  Very powerful.  Be carefull when buying trapps from gander Mountain or hardware stores, because as a general rule of thumb they suck, and will give you a lot of trouble in the feild.  Poorly built trapps result in missing coyotes who then become educated and basicaly impossible to trap.

This is a hard time of year to trap, but you can minimize one of the negative effects of the heat by seting traps early in the morning and just before the sun goes down when it is not so hot.  This will keep you from sweating while you're setting the traps so you won't get your sent everywhere.

Good luck.

Also, for bobcats don't under estimate the power of catnip.  Soft catnip cat toys make great sent holders for bobcat sets.

Well i almost got skunked and then......caught a football sized hog on a trap we had baited with a rabbit!!!!  It was a lot of fun and i'm looking forward to getting to the ranch again and get it another shot.  I need to do more research for exactly how to bait and what to bait the traps with.

Thanks for the info.  i'll check out that site.

Oh - we did get about 5 other hogs and shot one coyote running by a pond.
