I have shot bacon skinners for the last 4 years. They are thick and fly great. They do have a smaller cutting diameter at 7/8". I have just purchased a set of rage 2 blades. The practice blade flies better than my field points. If the real blades fly that good and cut good, I will be switching for good.

Satellite three blade 125s. They stay together well in the animal. So do thunderheads. Also like Muzzy. Before all these, I used my home made ones. They have taken all sorts of game.

Years ago I started with Wasps out of my recurve, switch to satelites when I got my first compound (so I wouldn't have to sharpen the main blade). Then later I switched to 100 grain three blade Muzzys. I have taken a lot of deer with all of them, it's shot placement that counts. I haven't tried any of the mechanical blades so maybe I am missing something too.

I use 125 gr snuffers. They are 36 for a pack of 6. Pretty good deal, and they are old school. The older bow-hunters I've talked to have usually sworn by those...

Snuffers! I haven't used a broadheads without repaceable blades in years. I didn't even know anyone made them anymore. I remember going hunting and spending a few minutes the night before going over my broadheads with a whetstone to make sure each one was razor sharp. Aaah, those were the good old days.

OK, this is weird. The 4 blade Muzzy MX4s do not fly like my field points. Neither do the Stykers. The MX4s were 3" high and 3" right. I adjusted my sites and both broadheads are pretty much right on now. On my son's bow, they are both pretty close to the same. My old Thunderheads were only 2" high with my aluminum arrows. Oh well, I've moved the sights now, so there's no need to turn back. Both penetrate well on my broadhead target. The thing will hardly hold the arrows.

I've killed deer with Bear Razor Heads, Savora, Satellites, Wasps, and Thunderheads. I've always shot 125 grain heads until this year. Switching to the carbons, I wanted to work on penetration. I was never very happy with the penetration of the Thunderheads. I had one not pass through the ribs on a doe with an 84 lb bow shooting 2216s. Knocked it plumb off it's feet, but didn't pass through. Broke ribs on both sides, but didn't pass through. I've had the most pass throughs with the old Bear Razor Head, but didn't get a lot of blood with those. I really like the looks of the G5 Montec's, but I am having trouble getting them sharp. I like the small frame with a big cut and laser milled (not welded) construction. Anyone else had any luck getting them scarry sharp?

i had the G5's last year and they shot awful out of my bow just as the rocky mountain titainums and the muzzy 3 and 4 blades. as far as the 2216 thats like shooting a piece of rebar these days. its sounds like you got plenty of kinetic energy though. from what it sounds like from the posts i shoot a little lighter broadhead than most everyone with 85grains. the only thing i havent gotten a pass through is two boars that were over 200 lbs. watch now that i say that this weekend ill shoot something and it not pass through. i looked at the price of some XX75 the other day and the price was comperible to the gold tips that i shoot.

Just a little FYI, if you will take the time to truely papper tune your bows, you will find most "flight" problems will be cured. Some broadheads will plane, that is just that, after all some of them are just like putting fletching on the front, Also make sure you are shooting correct spine, guys are going light to go fast, not alway a good idea. I have shot Muzzys for years, then tried Montecs, loved them. This year I have tried a new one, I have never been fond of machanicals, but I have been watching OUT DOOR channel and seen some deer shot with the new rage. I bought 2 packs along with a friend of mine doing the same. We got the thre blade 1.5" cut. We where mule deer hunting last week in Van Horn. Ricky shot his deer opening morning after a short 45 min stock. When we came over the top of the ridge we spotted the buck feeding at about 35 yd. the creasote brush was to tall to get a clean shot, so we let the deer feed across the small coolie. When he was clear of the brush and presented the first shot I ranged him and the range finder said 79yd. I told Ricky the yardage and the arrow was in flight, with a short wait the arrow crack like a clap of thunder. the deer walked off slowly for a couple of steps and then spen his pace up hill till he was flat covering some ground. 20 yd. from the top he turned and on shaky legs came down the mountain like a bat out of " ". He crashed just 40 yd. down the hill. The shot was spot on, and a clean pass through. The entrance wound that Rage left was unbelievable. And the exit was just a little gross. The way those heads open is not like a normal machanical instead the blade come straight back on impact and cut on entrance. I am sold 200%. I will be testing them on hogs in the near futer and will let you know the out come.
Ethics are what you do when nobody is looking.........

Alright you RAGE-a-holics: you've gotten my attention. The other night at Gander Mountain the young fella selling archery gear did everything except dance for me proclaiming the wonders of the RAGE 2 and 3 blade units. He even said that they shoot well through the mesh of a popup blind - of that I'm skeptical. I wanna know more about these things.

Kevin, I just shot my first deer with a rage 2 blade this morning. I'm impressed with it. It truley does leave a 2" entry hole. The big doe went 40 yards and collapsed. I will be using it again tomorrow. The blade went thru 2 ribs on the entry and made complete pass thru. The locking on them is unique. The blade operate on a slip bacis. Only pressure on the front part of the blade will deploy the blades. They simply fold and lock in place. It's so simple. I'll add pictures here in the public land forum shortly.

I don't have a close up of the doe I shot with a RAGE 2 blade opening morning but this was the last time I hunted without them. My hubby took this guy on a hog hunt we went on this spring. That is a 4 inch hole in the side of that pig. He went maybe 10 feet leaving a 5 foot wide trail behind him....he was spraying everywhere.

I found an interesting review at BassPro on the Rage broadheads (http://reviews.basspro.com/2010/79648/reviews.htm). It sounds like either you love them, or you hate them. Go figure. One thing that keeps bothering me about the Rage is that no one seems to be able to answer whether you can shoot them through the mesh in a pop up or not.

You guys are probably right. I know if I hit a deer right with either my 4 blade Muzzy MX4 or the Montec, the deer's going to die. Dead is dead. I don't reckon they can get any deader. I've not had any trouble finding any of the good shots I've made, and I've got both flying well out of my bow now.

I pull back about 43# and on the doe I took opening morning with the RAGE went threw the ribs and broke the leg bone into 2 piece and came out about 1/2 inch on the opposit side. If it had not hit the leg I am sure it would of completely passed threw. My hubby has got a complete pass threw everytime he has shot something with the RAGE. As far as the shoot threw netting I have never tried it for the simple fact that none of out stands have it on them.

My bow is set at 62 lbs. Like I said before I can't remember the last time I had an arrow that didn't pass thru completely, from broadhead to vanes . They are usually stuck in the ground on the far side of the deer. My son has been talking about trying the Rage2. I'm set in my ways. But it sounds like the Rage does the job and well.

Out of my bow, nothing seems to fly like my field points. Broadheads are 2" high, period. My old Thunderheads don't sail as much as do the Muzzy MX4s and G5 Montecs. A slight adjustment (which is normal for me) and all of my pins are right on. Oddly enough, the Muzzy MX4 four blade flies exactly the same as the G5 Montecs.

One of the Bass Pro Complaints about the Rage is a joke. It was a 50 yard shot. The other complaint is bogus as well as there could have been several things that caused the arrow to stray. I have yet to meet someone that didnt sing the praises of the Rage broadhead. I also like the fact that it comes with a practice tip as well.

If I could have found replacement blades for the things, I would have bought some to try. I just haven't been able to find them. Nothing against the Rage, I can't find replacement blades for anything - G5 Strikers, or anything else. That's just silly. That's why we shoot broadheads with repalceable blades. It seems to me that these shops are wanting us to buy more broadheads. Go figure. I was able to find replacement blades for the Muzzy MX-3 4 blades, and that why I bought them. I can go practice with those, and then replace the blades before I go hunting. With the Montecs I can sharpen them and then go hunting.

Change the o-ring on the rage to the same size but a lil thicker and you should have no problems. The cut-out just needs a little more to bite into through the screen. I shoot Rock Mountain Titanium fixed blades and Rocky Mountain Snypers for mechanicals. IMO the snyper is the basis for the rage so I won't hesitate switching when the snypers run out.

I have used Steeleforce for several years now and am very happy. The pig in my pic to the left was shot at 25 yrds broadside/ quartering away, with a 1998 Model Jennings Buckmaster shooting 235fps. The arrow went in through the right ribcage and came out through the left shoulder and stuck 4 inches into the ground. The pig was recovered 25 yards from the arrow!

100 gr. Thunderheads. I've never had a problem with pass-thru. As a matter of fact, I shot a 6-1/2 yr. old 8 pt. in Uvalde a few weeks ago and found my arrow about 50 yds behind it (double lung shot). I have my bow set at 70 lbs. As a few other posters have stated, these broadheads shoot almost identical to my field points.

I havn't tried the 2-blade rage, but my brother hit a bull elk in the shoulder with a 3 blade rage last year in Colorado and only got 2" of pen. So that bull wasn't even hurt! I make Uncle Ted happy and shoot the Magnus Stinger Buzz Cut 100g, they fly the same as my field pts. I have tested diff. broadheads on big boars and it is by far the only one I'll use. I shot the pigs in the shoulder on purpose to see what kind of pen. I would get. The Magnus on a 300lb + boar pen. over 11" when hitting dead center of that shoulder plate. I just recieved the new 150g Buzz Cuts to try out from Magnus. They should be awesome on pigs and large game.

Well, I tried about everything made up until 5 or 6 years ago. I hunt about 200 days a year, travel to hunt in other countries for different game, so I've had plenty of opportunity to try alot of different things, all different price ranges too. I say, the best all around broadhead for value, quality and quantity for an avid hunter of all kinds of game is the Muzzy 4 blades and I use the 125 gr. The grain weight depends on your shooting set up. The price is right, access to product is right and they do what they're supposed to do. So, 5 or 6 years ago, I went Prostaff for Muzzy because they're the best value. Also, forget field points to practice with once your set up. Practice what you hunt with for best results and confidence in your shooting. Can't do that with my favorite mechanical NAP spitfires. 3 or $38.00. Muzzys are 6 for $26.00.
There are several good broadheads out there now a days. That wasn;t the story even 10 years ago.
A Family that Hunts together, stays together.

I'm a RAGE 2 fan. I hunted with them for the second year in a row, and have had nothing but great results. I've shot them from my ground blind, and the mesh did not hinder my arrow at all. ALL my shots have pass thru every animal I drew back on. Axis, Whitetail, Hog and Coyote. However, i don't take a shot unless i'm sure of my shot placement, and it helps alot when your shooting 70lbs.
