Well we got out to camp late Friday night and the plan was for Carla to hunt and for me to videotape the hunt. So we got out to our stand Saturday morning and the only thing we saw was a coon. Saturday night our hunt was interupted by a four-wheeler. Sunday morning we accidentaly overslept. Sunday night, well, it turned out alright. We climbed up into the cedar tree that we would be hunting from at about 4:45 pm and got situated. At about 5:40 Carla thought that she saw something straight ahead, but I could never see anything. A few minutes later I looked to the left and saw a doe standing about 60-70 yards from our stand. She just stood there for about 15 minutes licking her coat and hardly moved more than a couple of steps the whole time. Then a fawn jumped out of the brush and kind of ran around the doe playing, but working its way over to the feeder. The fawn came into the feeder pretty quick, but the doe took her time. I got the camera ready as she approched and as she came in Carla drew her bow as the doe passed behind a limb. The second that the doe offered her the shot Carla had that arrow flying. Carla's bow is set at 42 pounds, but that arrow went right through the doe and stuck in the ground. A double lung hit. Carla was obviously very excited and her adrenaline was pumping, she was disapointed when I told her that we needed to wait to go look for the deer. Well I shut of the video camera after all of the excitement and forgot to press the stop button to end the recording and as a result all we have to show for the shot on video is the doe starting to walk in to the feeder. However, I will post the video of the two of us recovering the doe in the video section. Happy Hunting.

Excellent! Bow hunting is a real challenge, so you both should be quite proud. You'll enjoy that hunting story and memory for years to come.

Oh yeah....Sunday October 1, 2006 at 6:10 pm in Anderson County Texas. Hoyt Bow, Red Head Carbon Express Arrow and Muzzy Broadhead. We were out for a deer, but would have shot a hog had one come in. Carla said that a hog is next on her list. I have never shot muzzy broadheads, but was very impressed with it's performance. I was just hoping that the arrow would penetrate through the deer, but never thought that it would completely pass through.

Scott, congrats! that is a right pretty young lady you have there and I am really glad to see her get out in the woods with you. I wish more wives/girlfriends would go out hunting/fishing. I know, I know.....it might ruin some of the card playing and stories but I still bet all the memories and new stories would be well worth it.

Glad to hear more good things about the Muzzy tips -- I have their 125gr sitting atop my Gold Tip carbons, but I have yet to see what they can do first hand. Had an avid, experienced bowhunter tell me I could not go wrong with them, and I keep hoping to have my own testimonial about them soon.

Well as far as broadheads go I never tried Muzzy broadheads before due to past experiences with other somewhat similar broadheads. I used to shoot Thunderheads with my bow set at 68 pounds and the only time I had a complete pass through was on a very small doe. I definately prefer a complete pass through since it helps with the tracking job. I always thought that the Muzzy couldn't do much more for penetration than the thunderhead, but I guess that I was wrong. Like I said her bow is set at 42 pounds and that arrow went straight through and was in the ground a few inches when we picked it up.

Carla was very excited to hear that there have been more posts about the doe she shot. She sure does enjoy getting out into the woods with me. Her mom let her borrow the bow that she shot the doe with, but needed it for some hunting of her own so we gave it back to her mom toward the end of deer season. We will have to get Carla her own bow before next season. Lately Carla has been helping to control the hog population out where we hunt.

Fantastic hunting! Nice picture of a beautiful whitetail. You should both be very proud to have shared the experience. You'll remember it always. Best of luck next season also! Bet you can't wait.

Why yes, yes it is! - Carla borrowed the bow from her mom. Me, I have been shooting a Hoyt since 1991, until I bought a Reflex 2 years ago, but then again a Reflex is basically a Hoyt.
We spent the weekend setting up a couple of stands where we can hunt together for the upcoming season, Carla is excited to get back out and hunt...as am I. She has shot a couple of hogs with a rifle and she is excited to also try to get a hog with her bow this season.
