When it comes to fishing around Laguna Madre, Matt Deyo is one of the best guides you can find. Yes, there are other great guides, but since I went with Matt after months of hearing about his amazing ability to put serious anglers on the fish, this story is about my trip with Matt, Wendell and Jed. He put us on the spotted seatrout and red fish (drum).

Wendell Tanner is another serious sportsfisherman and general outdoorsman. He also happens to be one of the top Ford Truck salesmen in Texas, working for Covert Ford in Austin. I have known Wendell for many years, but met Jed & Matt on this trip.

Jed Wilson is a friend, neighbor, and together, these three are the inventors of a really neat fishing lure that is still shrowded in secrecy - but coming to a store near you one day.

Like any other good fishing trip, we started out early in the cold and rain. Soon the light broke, the rain lifted, we had a full tank of gas and a livewell of croakers and piggies.

The photos and video really tell the story. We had a great time, saw a variety of marine life, as Matt put us on the fish. Since he had clients coming in the afternoon, we had a lot of work to do in a short period of time.

Wendell and I fished while Jed continued gathering data for their fishing lure. I guess the porpoise came in because of the bait fish in the water?

Matt doesn't really charge $700 for a half day like I said in the video, that was a joke because in my opinion he doesn't charge enough for the level of service and quality of experience he provides. I was telling him to raise his rates so he can quit his day job. He just loves to be on the water.

There is another short video of the owner of Billings Bait Store with a little humor posted in the Saltwater Fishing Forum. Click HERE to go to that page.
